New High-Gloss Spray System Installed

One of the UK’s best known and highest quality spray finishers has just installed a significant installation from Schuberts.

The large manual system comprises of a fully enclosed spray shop, with filtered air handling input system to balance air pressures, clean flash-off zone, Schubox gas catalytic IR curing system, paint mix room, seven Sandbox tables and the Eco-Booth retro-fit system to their existing open spray booths.

The installation is designed and specified for the rigours of solvent AC and high gloss PU onto flat, curved and shaped pieces.

1000 lux lighting is fitted throughout for very good colour rendition and quality control.

Andreae High Efficiency filters on the extract booth mean that a zero particulate emission is the goal.

Schubert Spray-Booth

Inverter driven motors mean that extraction rates can be altered according to site conditions and air-flow requirements.

The paint kitchen has a bunded floor, twin glazed doors, constant extraction and a fully ATEX rated heating system to ensure the paint and lacquer is kept at the optimum spraying temperature and viscosity.

Up to 3 spray operators can use the system at any time, with adjustable divider panels meaning no cross-contamination of paint overspray.

Cleanliness is the key, with dust and contamination kept to an absolute minimum, meaning re-works are all but eradicated and high gloss work can be carried out with ease.

Sandbox down draft tables are utilised outside the spray shop to collect and filter fine denibbing dust and help to ensure that this dust goes nowhere near the wet spray, clean zones.

The Schubert ‘Eco-Booth’ system has been retro-fitted to each of the customer’s existing booths. This system allows the spray booths to be stepped down in output when not in use, via PLC microprocessors and inverter drives. There are significant energy savings and knock on benefits such as easing negative air pressure issues within factory environments.

Typical cure times in the Schubox curing system are down from air dry times of hours to 20-30 minutes, with a big step up in quality and volume of product processed.

Glass Finisher Invests In new Schubert Spray System

A contract glass finisher has just installed a new Schubert manual 7.1m wide x 3.1m high spray booth system in their new purpose built factory.
This new installation features full ATEX lighting and ATEX fan sets.
The customer will be spraying both solvent and waterbased paints and lacquers directly onto sheet and engineered glass products for the decorative and architectural markets.
The extraction chamber is installed hard against an internal factory wall with a custom made external support frame holding the fan set motors, bends, ducting and flap cowls.
Such was the height of the factory and lengths of ducting required, specialist lifting platforms had to be used!

This new installation from Schuberts gives the customer total flexibility for the full spectrum of glass spraying processes and with such a high standard of safety features, can spray solvented material with peace of mind.

High Gloss Problems Cured With Schubox Technology

Paul Glover Furniture Ltd produces a range of high quality bespoke cabinets and furniture design. Their discerning clients require the perfect quality finish each time and with the growing volume of high gloss polyester and polyurethane finishes, there had to be an answer for reducing the bottleneck in the spray shop.
After seeing and testing a Schubox gas catalytic infra red drying system in use at another customer spraying high gloss lacquer, Paul Glover knew what impact having his own Schubox set-up would have.

A dedicated side-loading flash-off section and Schubox drying system was ordered and 6 weeks later was delivered to site. A two man team from Schuberts installed, commissioned and trained the staff in a total of 4 days and Glovers haven’t looked back.
The Glovers production is carefully sprayed by hand in an enclosed spray shop before being placed onto racks and then placed into the flash-off zone.
The flash-off section takes solvent laden air through at ATEX rated fan set into the Schubox for oxidisation through the catalytic process. Once the pieces are flashed-off, they are placed inside the Schubox for curing at 35c for 20 minutes.

The Schubox systems are available in many guises, including using fully ATEX rated emitters that are suitable for a zone 1 location use inside and outside the Schubox, flash-off pre-chambers, automatic doors and connection to new or existing spray shops.

Major UK Timber Merchant Installs New Makor Automatic Priming Line

One of the UK’s largest timber merchants and sawmills have just installed a new Makor priming line from Schubert Technical Services Ltd.

Over the last years, with rising costs and patchy quality from their external subcontractor, they decided to move their finishing in-house, raise the quality, have total control over stock and offer new finishes to their large customer base.

The Makor primer line, rather uniquely, is designed to spray and cure water-based paint on 3 or 4 sides in one pass. The spray line will take 5.0m max lengths, window board up to 250mm wide and pieces 100mm high. All this with a 10 minute colour change, at up to 35m/min line speed!

The spray machine is fitted with 6 automatic spray guns that actuate on and off exactly when the timber is passing through the machine. The guns can be isolated individually, so that only the right number are used for the correct profile. Any overspray is recovered in Teflon vats, filtered and reused once again. Not only can they spray pigmented primers onto softwood, but they can apply clear top coats onto hardwoods. In fact, any water-based paint they want, such is the flexibility of the Makor line. Traditional vacuum coaters could never hope to match the quality of sprayed finish, nor the flexibility of paint product through the Makor IRIDE 206 spray machine.

The in-line drying tunnel utilises special pulse electric infra-red elements to cure the paint in just 10 seconds on all 4 sides and with handling conveyors to suit, this really is a very special, flexible solution.

Their Group Production Director said “From the very start of the enquiry, both Schuberts and Makor have been able to demonstrate that this line would be an ideal place for our business to grow our ability to finish our own product. We were confident that they could deliver on every element of the proposal and after seeing other lines installed and full-scale tests, we didn’t hesitate to place the order. It opens so many doors to us now that the line is going to be kept very busy!”
