GB Projects Invests In A New Finishing System

GB Projects trusted Schuberts with a new, custom-built finishing system for both solvent and waterbased coatings.

The new system comprises of both manual spray and automatic spray applications, feeding into a flash-off section and then finally into a Schubox CIR gas catalytic infrared drying system.

Product arrives at the finishing shop from manufacturing either in panel or carcass form. For long finishing runs such as priming, they use an automatic spray machine. When top coats or carcass work needs coating they use the manual spray shop enclosure.

Both the auto machine and manual spray shop both feed into a large flash-off room. The former through a slot in the side of the flash-off and the latter through double sliding product doors.

The flash-off is fitted with low level balanced extraction with adjustable louvers, through an atex fan, into ducting and finally into the Schubox.

Once flashed-off for between 10-15 mins, either the finger trolleys or carts are wheeled into the Schubox for rapid curing. For solvent coatings, this takes 20 mins and for water based coatings 25-30 mins. The system will accept multiple racks, with a mixture of coatings, film weights and substrates at any one time.

Director of GB, Eddy Burrows says; “Schuberts went above and beyond to provide us with a system that fitted perfectly. It’s rare to find a company that will not just supply the bare minimum but also go the extra mile and Schuberts do exactly that. Their team provided a brilliant service from start to finish.”

All Dualtech spray machines have in common is the top quality of key technical features, including two opposing painting arms and a large cabin which guarantees an optimal application on both the panel’s surface and edges.
Other noteworthy features are the technology to recover paint from the conveyor belt and the latter’s cleaning system, unequalled solutions in terms of extremely low washing solvent consumption, a longer belt service life and a very simple operation.

All Dualtech machines can be fitted with accessories and technological solutions to further increase their flexibility, productivity and reliability. This includes the “Dualfast”, the system that allows you to change guns – and hence the spraying circuit – in less than 60 seconds, thereby maintaining optimal working conditions; the option of the PLC controlled vertical positioning system of the guns also guarantees excellent painting cycle repeatability; the electronic control for the ventilation inside the spray chamber which is required for extending the efficiency and operating time of the spray machine. All versions are available with a “Dry” or “Wet” solid particulate disposal system.

Schuberts Turn-Key Door Finishing System Delivered

A new complete finishing system has been delivered to a UK manufacturer of doors and components.

The new system from Schuberts comprises of through-feed brushing de-nibbing machine, spray shop enclosure, flash-off section, Schubox drying system, paint mix room and overhead conveyor with structural steelwork supports.

The de-nibbing brushing machine is designed for the prep of doors and components. Fitted with the Flex-trim brushing system, the machine can take anything up to 1300mm width and 100mm thick. The machine is adjustable in forward speed, angle of attack, pressure applied and rotation speed to give the very best finish.

The spray shop is an auto-balanc system with inverter drives on the input and extract fans, via a pressure transducer system. This means the air inside will self balance at the same time as extracting at 1m/s velocity, irrespective of the condition of the filters. Once the filters are clogged, the HMI tells the operators to change them.

Once sprayed, the wet products go into the clean flash-off section to flow out and vent, before going into the Schubox gas catalytic infrared drying system to cure.

The Schubox is able to run from 35c-50c depending on the coatings used and dries in record time. In this case 30-40mins each coat.

An overhead track, hangers, steelwork complete the system.

Component Flow Coating Line For Joinery

New flow-coating profile line for waterbased preservatives has been installed at a UK joinery manufacturer.

This profile coating line is capable of processing beading all the way through to large timber sections. The waterbased coating is applied through a series of directional low pressure nozzles. Any over spray is collected, filtered and put back into the system, so there is zero liquid wasted in the system. All the internals of the machine are moplan and teflon coated.

All of the parameters can be controlled on the HMI screen.

Once coated, the timber is subjected to a series of adjustable air jets that blow the excess coating off but leaves the timber damp. This is key to allow the preservative to soak into the timber for 10 minutes after application.

The timber is removed from the end of the line, placed on drying racks and dried properly using gas catalytic infra red technology.

Glass Coater Goes Schubert Route

Not all our installations are large or high-value ones….

Here we have a modest manual installation for a glass coater.

The equipment comprises of a manual spray shop enclosure and a retro-fitted Kit-Cat drying system.

Once sprayed in their waterbased coatings, the glass is put into the drying zone, fitted with gas catalytic infrared. This means the drying time is vastly reduced, the coating is properly dried and the ‘open time’ for dust and contamination is down to 20 mins.

Kitchen Manufacturer Installs New System From Schuberts

One of the UK’s leading PLC manufacturers of kitchens, bedrooms and furniture has just installed a turn-key finishing system from Schuberts.

The system comprises of a large hand finishing system, specifically for high-quality waterbased coatings.

There are dedicated preparation zones, with extraction and filtration of dust and contamination that ensure the pre-sanding and intercoat denibbing is contained and safe for both the operators whilst keeping the products as clean as possible.

After prep, the products are hand sprayed in a full spray enclosure. This is fitted with both filtered and balanced air input and full filtered extraction. The booth is split with adjustable dividers, meaning the working areas can be adjustable for up to 4 sprayers in their own zones.

Twin paint mix rooms either side of the system allow coatings to be mixed up safely and means the pumping systems can be installed in a safe and secure room, away from the spraying process.

Once coated, the pieces are loaded on racks and placed into the Schubox for rapid curing.

The Schubox is a custom design, allowing product to be loaded at one end and taken out the other. The unique long wave gas catalytic infra red technology dries coatings in record time, improving the lay-down and making sure no contamination is present.

A lovely installation and one the client is very proud of!

UK Timber Door Manufacturer Goes the Schubox Route

One of the UK’s market leading supplier of wooden doors and associated products has just installed a new finishing system from Schuberts.

Their brand name can be found in the most prestigious names in the Builders Merchants and Retail sectors across the UK with in excess of 400,000 internal and external doors sold per year.

The new system comprises of two custom dimension centrifugal spec spray booths with canopies, lighting and custom duct work, plus a new custom Schubox gas catalytic infra red drying system. The input air is pre-filtered through capture and hold filters in the spray shop sliding doors.

The doors are pre-sanded, base-coated in the spray booths, dried in the Schubox, then denibbed, top-coated and back into the Schubox one final time.

Typical Schubox drying times with their high-build waterbased coatings are just 30 minutes at 35c, cutting previous drying times down from 3-4 hours per coat!
