New Giardina Full Spray Line Installed

A well-known UK  manufacturer of wooden and timber components has taken delivery of a custom Giardina spray and drying line from Schuberts.

All of the production trials were carried out at the Schuberts Test Centre near Sheffield to define correct film weights, flash-off times, drying temperatures and energy required. The coating is a special knot-blocking, 100% waterbased coating, so drying was key to the process.

Double, quick change circuits are fitted to the Giardina spray machine, with Wagner pumps and GA4000 auto guns, meaning rapid colour changes, flushes and consistent film weights applied.

The drying tunnel allows for adjustable flash-off length, controllable jetted air from a hot water feed and infra-red from 0% to 100%.

GB Projects Invests In A New Finishing System

GB Projects trusted Schuberts with a new, custom-built finishing system for both solvent and waterbased coatings.

The new system comprises of both manual spray and automatic spray applications, feeding into a flash-off section and then finally into a Schubox CIR gas catalytic infrared drying system.

Product arrives at the finishing shop from manufacturing either in panel or carcass form. For long finishing runs such as priming, they use an automatic spray machine. When top coats or carcass work needs coating they use the manual spray shop enclosure.

Both the auto machine and manual spray shop both feed into a large flash-off room. The former through a slot in the side of the flash-off and the latter through double sliding product doors.

The flash-off is fitted with low level balanced extraction with adjustable louvers, through an atex fan, into ducting and finally into the Schubox.

Once flashed-off for between 10-15 mins, either the finger trolleys or carts are wheeled into the Schubox for rapid curing. For solvent coatings, this takes 20 mins and for water based coatings 25-30 mins. The system will accept multiple racks, with a mixture of coatings, film weights and substrates at any one time.

Director of GB, Eddy Burrows says; “Schuberts went above and beyond to provide us with a system that fitted perfectly. It’s rare to find a company that will not just supply the bare minimum but also go the extra mile and Schuberts do exactly that. Their team provided a brilliant service from start to finish.”

New 420 Automatic Spray Machine Launched

Schuberts presents the Giardina “Dualtech 420”, the first stage of the renovation process that will affect the entire range of “Dualtech” automatic through-fee spraying machines, a technology that represents fifty years of experience in spray painting in the name of quality, reliability, flexibility and ease of use.

Among the most interesting technical features the two opposing painting arms that guarantee an optimal application both on the surface and on the edges of the panel and the technology for the recovery of the paint that falls on the conveyor belt and the cleaning system of the latter, solutions that have no equal in terms of very low consumption of the cleaning solvent, a longer life of the belt, and a high simplicity of operation.

Each machine in the “Dualtech” range can be equipped with accessories and technological solutions to further increase flexibility, productivity, and reliability, such as the quick gun exchange system “Dualfast”, which allows you to change guns – and consequently the spraying cycle – in less than 60 seconds or the automatic vertical positioning system of the guns, or the electronic control of the ventilation inside the spray chamber, perfect for extending the efficiency and operating time of the sprayer.

New Giardina Auto-Spray Line Installed For A Very Special Use

One of the worlds largest manufacturers of engineered sealing solutions has taken delivery of a custom width Giardina coating line from Schuberts.

Built to a working width of 1500mm, this line sprays a very accurate layer of product, recovers all the overspray, to be filtered and used again and then dried inside an inline drying tunnel.

The automatic belt cleaning system on the spray machine means that all overspray is recovered. It then passes through filters and back into a constant mixing stainless steel tank, before being dosed back into the machine.

The automatic guns are positioned inline and fitted with very accurate nozzles and the machine has the ability to control flow, pressure and therefore build-up of coating.

Once sprayed, the product goes into a high speed jetted air oven, connected to in-line waterheaters and heat exchanges so the oven can run at a steady 70-80c irrespective of the factory temperature.

Running at 6m/min, this really is a special fully automatic Giardina spray line supplied by Schuberts!

Ever wondered what a Giardina Vertical Oven looks like and works?

The four-stage vertical oven designed and built by GiardinaGroup and available through Schuberts, optimally performs the four phases that characterize a perfect drying process: flash-off, first heating, second heating, and finally cooling.

The drying curve is guaranteed by the four stages in which the oven is structured, one for each phase, and each stage is separated from the other by dividing panels. In other two- or three-stage ovens, instead, some of the four phases are performed in the same spaces, therefore a homogeneous separation between them is not guaranteed and the zones are joined, mixing air and conditions inside – a less than ideal situation!

The version of four-stage vertical oven presented in the above video link, adopts a belt tray system, perfect for small pieces (there are no dangers related to their handling or dropping through) and for large and heavy elements which, being able to rest on a large and regular surface, do not risk any damage or marking to the contact surface already painted, with the tray system offered by others.

On request, it is possible to have the GiardinaGroup four-stage oven in an ideal set-up for those who have to process both thin pieces (flat doors) and high-thickness ones (curved doors): by reducing the number of trays the problem is solved, keeping the duration in each phase and for each product, whatever its thickness, constant and homogeneous.

Schuberts Install a New Giardina Automatic Glass Spray System at Esquire Glass

Founded in 1970 Esquire Glass has become one of the UK’s leading independent glass processors.

Their core business is in the production of processed glass panels for the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom industry. However, since 2002 substantial investment in a second factory and ‘state of the art’ glass processing plant has led to the company’s accelerated growth into new markets.

Their newest investment has been on a cutting edge finishing system from Giardina Group and their UK partners, Schuberts.

Running with waterbased coatings, the new Giardina system is capable of using both solid and far more difficult metallic colours. Fitted with 2 independent spray circuits, the switch between colours and coatings is very quick, meaning the customer can do both long and short runs of glass. All of the Wagner guns have the ability to run different tips and pressures, making the coating control very accurate.

The Dualtech 416 machine has full belt overspray recovery system, meaning wasted coating can be safely removed from the main belt, filtered and re-introduced into virgin mixes. The recovery system, unlike other systems relies on a series of rubber squeegees that gently, but effectively removes paint, rather than harsh metal blades that scrape and damage the belt over time. This guarantees the longevity of the Giardina belt.

The machine also boasts double filtration for the air input system, making the spray zone a clean zone, meaning reworks are a thing of the past.

On the extraction side, there are triple levels of filtration, ensuring incredibly low particulate emissions to atmosphere.

The touchscreen control panel gives the operators fine control over line speed, spray guns, circuits, pressures, gun heights and many other key parameters used for coating – all at the touch of a finger!

Once sprayed, the glass goes through a flash-off section and then on to a combination drying oven. The glass comes off the end of the line perfectly coated, dry and ready to handle and with a footprint of just 14m from end to end, it really is a compact, high production finishing system.

Paul Lockett, MD at Esquire says:-

“ Realising we (Esquire Glass) needed to be more flexible in the painting of our glass products, we spent last summer conducting due diligence on various systems. We found the Giardina system in collaboration with Schuberts UK to be the most effective for our needs. It was installed at the end of Jan ’18 and has already shown huge benefit by taking our production from 400 to 1600 pieces per shift. So far, we are very happy with the machine and are looking forward to developing it’s use over the coming year”
