UK Audio Manufacturer Chooses Schubox Over Other Technologies

A unique British company whose total preoccupation, since it was formed in 1974, has been with quality. Since its inception, they have kept steadfastly to its founders aims of building loudspeakers and audio electronics, which employ the most effective of modern engineering principles.

That has meant far more than keeping up with or even ahead of the competition. It has meant striving to make loudspeakers as near perfection in their performance as it is possible to make them.

All of their products are built to provide nothing less than the best sound reproduction money can buy and to meet the challenge of the latest digital recording technology.

Part of that quality is the finishing of their products. The feel, look and longevity of the finish is key. This is why the customer has invested in technology from Schuberts.

A Schubox gas catalytic infrared (CIR) drying system was installed to rapidly cure all wet coatings sprayed on, in a proper spray booth system.

Once applied, the Elmbridge products are flashed-off correctly for 10-15 mins and then introduced into the Schubox at 35-40c for between 30-45 mins, depending on type of coating and film thickness sprayed.

After the correct time in the Schubox, the peices are removed and sanded OR if top-coated are sent to fitting up, testing and despatch.

Another wonderful installation from Schuberts and one that has made a difference from day one of the commissioning for the client.

GB Projects Invests In A New Finishing System

GB Projects trusted Schuberts with a new, custom-built finishing system for both solvent and waterbased coatings.

The new system comprises of both manual spray and automatic spray applications, feeding into a flash-off section and then finally into a Schubox CIR gas catalytic infrared drying system.

Product arrives at the finishing shop from manufacturing either in panel or carcass form. For long finishing runs such as priming, they use an automatic spray machine. When top coats or carcass work needs coating they use the manual spray shop enclosure.

Both the auto machine and manual spray shop both feed into a large flash-off room. The former through a slot in the side of the flash-off and the latter through double sliding product doors.

The flash-off is fitted with low level balanced extraction with adjustable louvers, through an atex fan, into ducting and finally into the Schubox.

Once flashed-off for between 10-15 mins, either the finger trolleys or carts are wheeled into the Schubox for rapid curing. For solvent coatings, this takes 20 mins and for water based coatings 25-30 mins. The system will accept multiple racks, with a mixture of coatings, film weights and substrates at any one time.

Director of GB, Eddy Burrows says; “Schuberts went above and beyond to provide us with a system that fitted perfectly. It’s rare to find a company that will not just supply the bare minimum but also go the extra mile and Schuberts do exactly that. Their team provided a brilliant service from start to finish.”

Schuberts Turn-Key Door Finishing System Delivered

A new complete finishing system has been delivered to a UK manufacturer of doors and components.

The new system from Schuberts comprises of through-feed brushing de-nibbing machine, spray shop enclosure, flash-off section, Schubox drying system, paint mix room and overhead conveyor with structural steelwork supports.

The de-nibbing brushing machine is designed for the prep of doors and components. Fitted with the Flex-trim brushing system, the machine can take anything up to 1300mm width and 100mm thick. The machine is adjustable in forward speed, angle of attack, pressure applied and rotation speed to give the very best finish.

The spray shop is an auto-balanc system with inverter drives on the input and extract fans, via a pressure transducer system. This means the air inside will self balance at the same time as extracting at 1m/s velocity, irrespective of the condition of the filters. Once the filters are clogged, the HMI tells the operators to change them.

Once sprayed, the wet products go into the clean flash-off section to flow out and vent, before going into the Schubox gas catalytic infrared drying system to cure.

The Schubox is able to run from 35c-50c depending on the coatings used and dries in record time. In this case 30-40mins each coat.

An overhead track, hangers, steelwork complete the system.

Door Manufacturer Dries In Record Time With Schubox

One of the UK’s best known manufacturers of doors has just installed a custom Schubox drying system for their solvent 2K PU range of coatings. With end entry and side exit, it fits perfectly with the product flow.

The Schubox is fitted with four gas catalytic infrared emitters and certified for solvent use (ATEX).

Running at just 36c, the Schubox cures the 150 micron wet coatings in 40 mins, after a flash-off period of just 5 mins.

When full, the Schubox holds 50 doors at any one time, increasing the production rates and reducing the bottleneck of drying.

Component Flow Coating Line For Joinery

New flow-coating profile line for waterbased preservatives has been installed at a UK joinery manufacturer.

This profile coating line is capable of processing beading all the way through to large timber sections. The waterbased coating is applied through a series of directional low pressure nozzles. Any over spray is collected, filtered and put back into the system, so there is zero liquid wasted in the system. All the internals of the machine are moplan and teflon coated.

All of the parameters can be controlled on the HMI screen.

Once coated, the timber is subjected to a series of adjustable air jets that blow the excess coating off but leaves the timber damp. This is key to allow the preservative to soak into the timber for 10 minutes after application.

The timber is removed from the end of the line, placed on drying racks and dried properly using gas catalytic infra red technology.

New And Old At Virtuoso

Schuberts have just installed a turn-key Giardina autospray line at Virtuoso Doors as well as their older manual finishing system.

The philosophy of the new line was borne out of extensive testing and trials at our Sheffield Test Centre and proved to the customer there was only one solution that would work.

A cantilevered loading table at the start of the line starts the process, followed by infeed conveyor and then mechanical brushing with the brilliant flex-trim systems. The brushing machine has oscillation, speed, direction and height controls as well as a vacuum bed. This ensures the best surface preparation.

After brush sanding, there is an open section to allow application of prep-clean liquid before the cleaning and de-ionising process.

The spray machine 420 dry is fitted with 2 circuits and Wagner pumps and guns to give a consistent and even coverage of the coatings. This machine is processing full size doors as well as components.

Once sprayed, the products enter a flash-off tunnel, with incoming air is filtered, the air warmed to 30c and the paint vapours extracted to atmosphere.

After the flash-off, the products go through a jetted air tunnel at 45-50c for drying.

This new Giardina line from Schuberts goes hand in hand with the original manual system consisting of sprayshop enclosure with full autobalance, flash-off, Schubox drying system and paint mixing room.
