Door Manufacturer Dries In Record Time With Schubox

One of the UK’s best known manufacturers of doors has just installed a custom Schubox drying system for their solvent 2K PU range of coatings. With end entry and side exit, it fits perfectly with the product flow.

The Schubox is fitted with four gas catalytic infrared emitters and certified for solvent use (ATEX).

Running at just 36c, the Schubox cures the 150 micron wet coatings in 40 mins, after a flash-off period of just 5 mins.

When full, the Schubox holds 50 doors at any one time, increasing the production rates and reducing the bottleneck of drying.

New And Old At Virtuoso

Schuberts have just installed a turn-key Giardina autospray line at Virtuoso Doors as well as their older manual finishing system.

The philosophy of the new line was borne out of extensive testing and trials at our Sheffield Test Centre and proved to the customer there was only one solution that would work.

A cantilevered loading table at the start of the line starts the process, followed by infeed conveyor and then mechanical brushing with the brilliant flex-trim systems. The brushing machine has oscillation, speed, direction and height controls as well as a vacuum bed. This ensures the best surface preparation.

After brush sanding, there is an open section to allow application of prep-clean liquid before the cleaning and de-ionising process.

The spray machine 420 dry is fitted with 2 circuits and Wagner pumps and guns to give a consistent and even coverage of the coatings. This machine is processing full size doors as well as components.

Once sprayed, the products enter a flash-off tunnel, with incoming air is filtered, the air warmed to 30c and the paint vapours extracted to atmosphere.

After the flash-off, the products go through a jetted air tunnel at 45-50c for drying.

This new Giardina line from Schuberts goes hand in hand with the original manual system consisting of sprayshop enclosure with full autobalance, flash-off, Schubox drying system and paint mixing room.

Canadian Manufacturer Takes Delivery Of A New Finishing System From Schuberts

A new Schubert installation has been made, with our partners at Yorke Towne, at one of Canada’s premier residential, joinery and commercial manufacturing companies, supplying their customers for over 20 years.

The installation comprises of a fully custom built flash-off and Schubox drying system, connected to a manual spray shop.

Once sprayed, the product is taken into the flash-off zone to settle and vent. The flash-off air is taken into the Schubox for oxidisation of VOC’s.

After flash-off, the Schubox is next. Working at just 40c, it pulls the solvent carriers out and cross-links the coating in record time. After 30 mins in the Schubox, the coatings are perfectly dry and ready for either denibbing or fitting up after topcoat.

Glass Coater Goes Schubert Route

Not all our installations are large or high-value ones….

Here we have a modest manual installation for a glass coater.

The equipment comprises of a manual spray shop enclosure and a retro-fitted Kit-Cat drying system.

Once sprayed in their waterbased coatings, the glass is put into the drying zone, fitted with gas catalytic infrared. This means the drying time is vastly reduced, the coating is properly dried and the ‘open time’ for dust and contamination is down to 20 mins.

MDF Producer installs Giardina Spray Line and Schubox Drying System

With over 100 different profile sections to deal with, a new coating and drying system has been installed by Schuberts to keep up with a massive increase in high quality painted MDF and timber. From 20mm to 300mm widths and up to 4600mm long, the new system will deal with it all.

The new system comprises of a brush sanding machine, connected to a Giardina profile spray machine, all running at 35m/min. The 1VE spray machine in fitted with Wagner spray equipment and will do a full colour change in around 5 minutes and is able to deal with 1k or 2k coatings. 1k coatings can be recovered, filtered and blended back into virgin paint.

Once sanded, the profiles are then coated with waterbased 1k paint, taken off and loaded onto trolleys.

The trolleys are then placed into a custom dimension Schubox for rapid and safe curing of the coatings at 30-34c. Drying the paint at low temperature and quickly with the gas catalytic IR technology means no fibre raise, no damage to the coating and no movement in the MDF or timber.

The new system doubles production rates, dries coatings in a quarter of the time it used to and gives a much higher end quality.

Composite Door Manufacture Installs Second Schubert Finishing System

The UK’s fastest growing and probably best-know producer of composite GRP doors has taken delivery of a second turn-key bespoke finishing system from Schuberts.

The line incorporates an overhead conveyor track, spray shop clean room with filtered air input and extract, flash-off zone and Schubox drying technology.

Once prepped and cleaned, the doors are hung onto the conveyor and moved into the spray shop for coating. Both the air input and extraction are inverter driven, giving a balanced air flow irrespective of the condition of the filters. The sensors fitted to the spray shop will even tell the operators when to change the filters.

The flash-off section allows the coating to flow and settle before going into the catalytic IR zone for rapid drying in about 45 minutes.

Once dried, the products are taken off the line and moved into the rest of the factory production system.

GRP Door slab manufacturer invests in their finishing future with Schuberts.

A significant, new, turn-key finishing installation has been commissioned at one of the UK’s leading GRP door slab, ancillaries and plastic components manufacturers.

The equipment comprises of a stand-alone horizontal automatic brush preparation machine. This through-feed machine uses Flex-Trim abrasive brushes to prepare the surface of the substrate. This then allows the slabs to be cleaned and then chemically prepared, ahead of coating. The through-feed brushing machine runs at 3m/min, meaning 380-400 sides can be processed per shift.

A load/unload automatic lifting station, when product up to 100kg each can be loaded and unloaded from the line with a single man.

The overhead conveyor is installed throughout the complete installation and with a max load on each 4 wheeled trolley of 200kg and a 90 degree sprung fitting for rotation.

Once loaded onto the line, a full ATEX rated spray enclosure with filtered air input and auto balance smart system has been installed for the spraying of the products. Individual silder divider panels are used to split up the spray zone into sector specific areas, allowing each of the potential 2 sprayers to spray at the same time.

Filtered air input, means all the incoming air for the spray process has airborne contamination removed, meaning no inclusions on the wet pieces being coated.

The inverter driven input and extract ATEX rated centrif fans are connected directly the PLC in the control panel and constantly alter their output depending on air pressures, filter condition and spray velocity required.

Once sprayed, the pieces go into a separate flash-off zone, where the coating is allowed to settle, vent and find its own level. Again, filtered air input means the wet product is kept clean and clear of particulate.

After the flash-off, a custom dimensioned Schubox is utilised for very rapid drying of the coatings. Running at just 36c, the gas catalytic IR heaters produce long wave infrared and along with a unique airflow inside the Schubox, the coatings are dried very quickly – around 45 minutes compared to 18 hours in ambient.

A dedicated ATEX rated paint mix room completes the installation. Bunded floor, ATEX heating, permanent extraction, filtered air, doors, work bench and ducting all feature in the PMR.
